Moth Orchid

Women love flowers. I am one of those who admire flowers specially orchids. Almost a month ago I bought an orchid at Trader Joe's. I am a little skeptical because I bought one a year ago and it just died and I really did not know what was the reason. But the one I bought recently really caught my attention. It has two flower stalks that are long and arching. It bears many large white, moth-like flowers. My husband did not want me to buy this flower because it was expensive and he knows that orchids need extra attention compare to some other plants. But I insisted and assured him that I will do my best to keep this plant alive and healthy.  Fortunately, the orchid is still doing good. Just a week ago, I transplanted it in a bigger pot and added some potting mix which is specific for orchids only. I also gave it orchid food and spray (misty) the flowers and leaves with water but I did make sure that the water will not go and stay in the crown of the plant. I place the orchid plant on the area in front on our kitchen sink so that I can see it every now and then.

I've learned as I searched on the net about the Moth orchid that it belongs to genus Phalaenopsis and in the family Orchidaceae. It is one of the most popular orchids in the trade, through the development of many artificial hybrid. These kind of orchids are perfect for beginners, like me because they are easy to grow. It's flowers can last from a month or so.

Here is the caring instruction that I followed (courtesy of Matsui Nursery Inc.):

Light: Bright filtered light. No direct sun.
Feed : Twice a month with half strength balanced liquid feed (orchid food)
Water: Keep evenly moist. Do not allow pot to sit in water avoiding water in crown of the plant.

Have fun growing your own orchid folks!

Doubtful and Confuse

Finally that guy that came to our house more than two weeks ago to give us an estimate for our recreation room's back wall had called and gave us the quote which was $17,500. What? We can't believe it will cost that much. Now, we are doubtful whether to pursue in having that wall stuccoed or just hire a handyman to replace the rotten wood and we will paint it by ourselves. We have to make a decision as soon as we can before the rain comes. If we will not replace that wood it will give as more headache one of this days.

I don't blame those people who can afford to buy a house and yet they rather live in an apartment because it is really expensive to upkeep the house. If you don't maintain the appearance of your house inside and out, it will give you more problems in the future. But we have to face the fact, our house is our home. We have to take care of it.

Give Us that Price

Our studio room's back wall needs to be repainted and also there are few woods that are rotten and need to be replaced. Since that wall is always being hit by the sun. The paint started chipping even though my husband repainted it two years ago. In fact because of too much heat, the wood started cracking causing the water to get in to it when it's raining.

We searched the internet possible solutions and ways in order to preserve that wall. We decided to have a texture coating after the rotten wood are being replaced. We called at least two company to give us a free quote. One guy came our house during one of my days off and the other one when my husband was here. It pisses off my husband because they want to talk to him for an hour to present their products and services. All my husband wanted to was to give him the price instead the two guys had the same words to say..........name me your price.....My husband was upset...That's why we asked these people so that they can give us the exact price. We are willing to spend as long as we are convinced that they will do a good job. We already went to their site and found information that we thought good enough to preserve that wall. Our time is precious and telling us the price immediately would be greatly appreciated.

Because of what had happened. Hubby decided not to hire one of them. Instead he called another guy to give us a quote for doing stucco (our second option). Stucco would be more expensive than texture coating but it will last longer according to the information we gathered on the internet. The guy will come to our house this afternoon and he promises my husband to give him the price immediately. Hope he is the solution to this problem. Hubby is at work and so I am the one responsible to talk to this guy of what we wanted the wall to look like. Hopefully, it will turn out well.
