Your Furniture Delivery Company

A month before I first arrived here in the U.S my husband bought a set of bedroom furnitures. The store where he bought that furnitures had closed more than one year ago. I was really impressed by the design and color of the furnitures he chose. It fits well in our small bedroom as well as the color matched with the color of our bedroom wall. I admit my husband has a better taste than me when it comes to any house related things. That's the reason why I always ask his opinion in almost everything for our house like the furnitures, appliances, garden, etc.

One day I was curious how did my husband transported those bedroom furnitures we have wherein it composed of two nightstands, two dressers and a bed. He told me that he did not do it himself. Instead he hired a furniture delivery company to bring it to our house since the store where he bought the furnitures did not have a delivery service at that time. It was still a good deal for my husband because the furniture store gave him a very reasonable price for those furnitures.

Most of the time, when people bought furniture especially when it is in a set, it involves a considerable amount of money. Thus, when it is delivered we assume that it is in good condition until it arrives to its destination. The best thing we can do to avoid any hassle nor damages in the furnitures that we have is to have it delivered by a respectable and reliable furniture delivery company just like GeoNet Express.

Artificial Dancing Lady Orchid

     MellowYellowBadge

It's another Mellow Yellow Monday Folks and my entry for today is this artificial Dancing Lady or Dancing Doll Orchid (Oncidium Reflexum). Hubby got this flower in a Flea Market in Huntington Beach, California few years ago. When I first saw this flower,  I thought it was real. But actually it was made of plastic materials and cloth. We usually place this artificial flower either in front of the fireplace when we are not using it or at the corner part of our living room because it is too big to be placed on the table as a centerpiece.

I had a real Dancing Lady many years ago before I came here in the US. I really like this kind of orchid plant because it is easy to grow and has a very pretty yellow flowers. I did not use a fertilizer or orchid foods for this plant. We/I used an alternative so that this orchid will grow healthy. Since rice is the main food in our country, cooking it at least twice a day is very common. Most of the time when we rinse the rice, we kept and used the foggy white color water in watering our plants particularly the orchids. I don't know if it is proven to make the plants healthy and bear flowers but based in my own experienced it surely does.

Tools You Need To Pass Your Upcoming Exams

My father used to tell me that having an education is vital to ones success. Your wealth may disappear at a snap of your finger but the knowledge you gain through having an education will all be yours and no one can take that away from you. The things that we learned from school, the books and articles that we read, and even our day to day experiences will mold us to become a better and well-informed individual.

Since going to school is very expensive, most students are doing their best to get in a college or even just acquiring a high school diploma in order to land a better job someday.  In order for a student to pass, she/he must have to seriously study. One way to be efficient in school is to be resourceful. If you want to get ahead, never rely only on the books and other materials that your instructor has been teaching you. Instead, you have to use your initiative to gain more knowledge about the realities of life.  If parents can afford to do so, they will hire a private tutor for the subject/s that their son or daughter is having difficulty with. Some are taking advantage of the technology that we have and explore the internet to gain more knowledge. If you prefer the latter, you can test yourself as to how far you have learned inside and outside the school by taking practice tests online. This practice exam will help you to be prepared and pass your upcoming exams.

On the other hand if you want to share what you've learned in school, you can impart the knowledge you have to your fellow students by creating and being a quiz maker. This way, you are helping others to pass the exams too.

Being a student was not that easy but I admit it was fun going to school most of the time. During those years when I am was a student, it never occurred to me that I can learn so much from the internet. Besides, the internet back then was not that popular in my home country especially in the small city where I came from. I relied mostly on books and the lessons that my teachers were teaching us.  But nowadays, you can gain more knowledge and always be prepared for your exams by creating or purchasing exam software. This way you will be able to learn and store the knowledge that will help you get through all your exams and get ahead of the rest of your co-students.

My Moth Orchid.....An Update

On September 9, 2009 I posted an article here in my blog regarding the moth orchid we purchased at Trader Joes. It has been almost 8 months since we got that orchid and I was not really very optimistic that this plant will going to survive under my care. I did not follow some of the care instruction especially giving the orchid its food twice a month. Instead, I use different strategy by watering and feeding my orchid using the water I used in rinsing the rice alone.  I've learned it way back home in my home country. Since orchid foods are not commonly used in the country where I came from and I haven't known anybody using it, a lot of Filipinos have been using an alternative to something they can't afford to buy.

Since my moth orchid is bearing many flowers, this prove that the alternative I am using right now really works.  Thanks to my friend, Evelyn Meinking for reminding me about what we used to do way back home.

Magazine Fundraiser Program

Every third week of January, the school where I graduated from high school to college celebrated their foundation day and the feast of Sr. Sto Nino. This celebration lasts for about a week. One of the things that the school has been doing for years is asking their students to bring something. Some bring canned goods, shampoo, soap, clothes, etc. for the prisoners in our city and for indigent families. The school will choose students and teachers to visit these prisoners and hand them the goodies in person. It so happened that I am one of those lucky students to be chosen to visit these prisoners when I was in my first year of high school. I still can vividly remember how happy they were when we visited them. Most of these prisoners are not from our city and so it is very rare that their families, relatives and even friends can give them a visit. They were very grateful that there is a school who is thinking of the least fortunate people like them.

This event hosted by our school is very successful and is still going on currently. The management, faculty and staff of my alma mater plan this activity far in advance. I know about this because I was once a member of the staff of my alma mater when I was in college.  The school needs to come up with an idea on how to make money for the said event. Ever since I was a student at that school for eight consecutive years, they relied mostly from the donations of different people and businesses in our city. Also, it was compulsory for all their students to sell raffle tickets although I am not sure if this is the current policy. The proceeds are used in all the events hosted by our school for the celebration of their foundation day.

But sometimes, it is difficult to collect the appropriate funds for all these activities. I am not sure if the school's management has researched proper fundraising initiatives. Since my alma mater has a lot of old books and magazines that are no longer being used in their library, they can set up book or magazine fundraisers. A lot of students and even those who love reading can benefit from this fundraiser and most importantly, the school can use the money they earn from this fundraising in helping the least fortunate.

Also, my alma mater has a lot of very gifted and intelligent students. They can use their ideas and skills to publish a magazine regarding the life of their students, their struggles and successes and use it for the fundraising program. I am sure many people will participate in this fundraising because they know that the money they spent in buying those magazines will be used for charitable purposes. Besides, the school can ask their students to donate their old magazines they have at home for the said fundraising program.
